Alastair Cox has over 35 years’ experience in the sports surface industry. During that time he has worked either as a sports surface test engineer or as consultant advising on the design, construction, performance and maintenance of sports facilities. This has allowed him to become one of the world’s leading authorities and he now regularly assists international and national sports governing bodies to set the performance and construction standards required for the facilities on which their sports are played. Alastair Cox has been a member of the British Standards Institute’s technical committee responsible for setting standards for sports surfaces since it was established in 1986; making him the longest serving member, and he has chaired the committee since 2010. He has also represented the United Kingdom on the European Standards Committee responsible for developing harmonised European Standards for sports surfaces since 1990 and now chairs the working groups with responsibilities for test methods, synthetic surfaces and synthetic turf surfaces. He also represents the United Kingdom on the European Standards Committee responsible for playing field and gymnasium equipment.
